Lanie's 4th of July

I'm trying to get pictures of Lane's summer wardrobe as it come (we finally have temperatures above 70, yeah!)

Below is an outfit that I designed without any patterns. For experienced sewists, you can see why - it is a very easy design and one that doesn't need a pattern once you've made a few garments here and there. But I used fabric that I adore and I would buy this outfit in a heartbeat if I saw it in a store!

The shorts are basic shorts with an elastic casing at the hem making it look like bloomers. I used espresso seersucker fabric.

I made two straps using scrap fabric cut in 2" strips and sewn into a 1/2" strip using a bias tape method and simply sewn on the front and back of the top and simply tied at the shoulder. I find with my toddler if I tie the bow towards her back, it doesn't bother her.

For the top, I did a basic tube using 45" of white seersucker fabric folded in half and sewn on one side. Then I made a wide casing (approx 1.5") - then sewed a smaller casing (approx 3/4"), inserted an elastic in the smaller casing creating a ruffle at the top.

Last, I finished off the look with a deep 2" hem. I've learned that it gives weight to the bottom of the blouse.

Overall, a simple and chic summer outfit fit for the 4th of July!
